About the Author
Metin Heper is chairman of the department of political science and public administration at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey. He has been a research associate at Harvard University, Fulbright scholar and visiting professor at the University of Connecticut, Lester Martin Fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and Simon Senior Research Fellow at the University of Manchester, U.K. He has written numerous articles on Turkish and comparative politics and is the author of The State Tradition in Turkey (1985).
