About the Author

G.M. Tamás, a research professor at the Institute of Philosophy of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and an associate fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study/Collegium Budapest, was one of Hungary’s leading dissidents and wrote extensively in samizdat; he was also among the founders of the Free Democratic Alliance and served in parliament during 1990–94. His latest book is Törszi fogalmak (Tribal Concepts), a two-volume collection of his philosophical papers (1999).
