János Kis
János Kis is a founder and the chairman of the Alliance of Free Democrats (SZDSZ), Hungary’s largest opposition party. A philosopher who was ousted from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences for political reasons in 1973, he became a leader of the democratic opposition and served as an editor of the samizdat journal Beszélő. A collection of his essays has been published in English under the title Politics in Hungary: For a Democratic Alternative (1989).
