Kemal Kurspahić
Kemal Kurspahić has been editor-in-chief of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian independent daily Oslobodjenje since 1988. His entire professional career has been spent at the Sarajevo-based newspaper, including stints as a correspondent in Belgrade and New York, as both sports and newsroom editor, and as deputy editor-in-chief. Oslobodjenje has received many international awards, including the Newspaper of the Year Award from the BBC and Granada TV (London) in 1992, and the Inter Press Service Achievement Award (Rome) and the Sakharov Award of the European Parliament in 1993. Mr. Kurspahić himself received the Courage in Journalism Award from the International Media Foundation (Washington) in 1992 and the Bruno Kreisky Award for human rights (Vienna) in 1993.
