Peter Anyang' Nyong'o

Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o is head of programs at the African Academy of Sciences in Nairobi, Kenya, and secretary general of the African Association of Political Science (AAPS). He is the editor of Popular Struggles for Democracy in Africa (1987). This article is based upon his keynote address at the Pan-African Conference on “Thirty Years of Independence in Africa: Results and Prospects” in Windhoek, Namibia, on 23 May 1991.
